Everything You Know, by Zoe Heller

Unfortunately I can’t enthuse about this novel as much as Zoe Heller’s second book. What Was She Thinking (Notes on a Scandal) I found to be a really gripping and suspenseful read, whereas Everything You Know seemed a bit meandering. Plus I didn’t find the main character, Willy Muller, all that convincing. Heller had to write ‘as a male’, and added in all this stuff that middle-aged men apparently say and do and feel. Heller’s Barbara Covett I warmed too much more.

But what do I know? Will Self gave it a rave review. It’s just after reading the fabulous What Was She Thinking I found this to be a bit of a let down. I really struggled to get through it.
