Animal Spirits, by Robert J. Shiller and George A. Akerlof

I read Robert J. Shiller's Irrational Exuberance, and should have learnt (or remembered) from that experience that the author writes in a rather dry, pedestrian (and yes, gulp, dull) style.

For Animal Spirits: How Human Psychology Drives the Economy, and Why It Matters for Global Capitalism , Shiller co-writes with George A. Akerlof. Unfortunately, the result is still rather dry and dull.

The subject matter is fascinating, and really, the book should read like the classic Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, by Charles MacKay.

Perhaps academic types might enjoy this, which is a shame, as it should appeal to a wider readership.
