James Howard Kunstler is my absolute favourite writer at the moment. I love his sharp witty style, marrying his aesthetic concerns with a rock hard intelligence.
This is my third work of non-fiction that I've read from Kunstler (he's also a novelist) and it was just as brilliant as The Long Emergency and The Geography of Nowhere.
In this book Kunstler basically gives an aesthetic, environmental and historical overview of a number of famous cities. As ever, his criticisms of American cities are full of his acerbic wit.
Highly reccomended.
