Run, Johnny, Run by Mungo MacCallum

This book is lousy! I only got through to page 45 until my eyes were just sliding off the page. It's just full of bile. Early on he quotes an old Canberra journalist who describes John Howard as a turd that can't be flushed down the toilet. That pretty much sets the tone for the whole book. It's gross. And every chapter starts with some quote with the word 'rat' in it.

I'm no fan of John Howard, but all the abuse is just tiring and unimaginative. I thought they're might be new stuff in this book, but it just seems to be trawling over the same old story.

It's a shame, because I enjoyed Mungo's Quarterly Essay.

I can't believe what some people publish.
