Carry On Jeeves, by P.G Wodehouse

This is my first Jeeves book. I picked it up because it came recommended from on the back of Stella Gibbons' Cold Comfort Farm. This is probably one of the wittiest writers I have ever read. Nay, it certainly is.

It is so frothy and light and just gallops along at a terrific pace. Wodehouse’s use of vocabulary is just perfect. You always think after reading one of his sentences: I wish I had thought of that.

The book is basically the story of a lot of dilettantes and poets and layabouts who all live off their eccentric aunties. Jeeves, the butler, always comes to the rescue with clever ideas to get the characters out of their scrapes, most notably, the books lively narrator, Bertie Wooster.

Thankfully, Wodehouse wrote over a hundred books, so you can get enough chuckles to last you a lifetime.

Highly recommended.
